Responsibilities:
The Craney Island Study Commission shall be charged with the responsibility of monitoring the condition, use, and future of the Craney Island Dredge Spoils Management Area, for the purpose of protecting community quality in affected areas of Portsmouth and Suffolk, and the public interest generally. To that end, it shall remain aware of all relevant activities of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Port Authority, the United States Navy, and other relevant commercial maritime, military interests, or other governmental interests or organizations. The Craney Island Study Commission shall report to city council annually, and at such other times as may be proper under the circumstances.
